A side product of this information age or really, honestly a “strategic asset”. The answer vary based on maturity, industry and average age of management. The younger the better, but there are exceptions. Nonetheless, still in the 21st century information seems to be a nice thing, but very few companies really understand the “power to know”.
We believe by heart in the “power to know” and uses the telescope analogy when it comes to information, its management and all kind related services and concepts. What is the telescope analogy? Usually human kind is able to tell what just happened. That is called “the past”. Some smarter sorts of human kind are able to analyze “the past” and enrich “the present” in terms of better decision, consciousness about what happened and why it happened and been able to let it happen again, for the good ones, and avoid it for the bad ones.
The even smarter human beings seek for more. The ever challenge of human kind: Predicting the future. Oracles, prophets, fake messiahs, miraculous creatures and witches came into light on the stage of human history, but all rather amateurs when it comes to usage of analytical and mathematical methods. They all rather were driven by super-natural happenings and chance.
These are not aspects you would like to base your business decisions on, or would you? Better not. So. What is the alternative? Build the telescope. But what is it and how to build it?
The telescope is the collection of skills, approaches and technologies which enables you to make use of all sort of enterprise information, analyze it in a structured way, apply statistical and mathematical models to it, to solve complex business problems, forecast possible future scenarios, enrich conscious decision making, illuminate risks and protect corporate investments and entities. Eventually become a smarter enterprise.
